Patient Comfort

Let us know about your experiences with discomfort or anxiety during your treatment. What works, what doesn’t?

We’re continually looking for ways to improve your experiences with – let’s face it – sometimes pain-causing treatments. We inject, shoot lasers, light and sound, abrade, freeze and burn! All safely, medically, and designed to improve your skin, aging process, lifestyle, and confidence, but even so, anxiety and/or pain can make the process uncomfortable.

First and foremost, we cause as little discomfort as possible by using the best equipment, skillfully applied. We’ve experienced most treatments ourselves, and so can relate to not only the discomfort, but also to the techniques to minimize it.

We start during the initial consultation by discussing any concern and share with you options for managing it.

During treatment, we frequently check in with you to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. And also, we encourage you to let us know if the feelings are too intense, or if you need a break.

For many treatments – IPL for example – we use a topical numbing cream. We apply it to the area to be treated, and wait for about 20 minutes for it to reach full efficacy. The treated area will feel a little numb. For many patients, this is all that is needed.

Many treatment devices have built-in discomfort management. For example, with CoolSculpting, we use the CoolAdvantage handpiece which immediately cools the skin with each pass, and our laser hair removal device utilizes SmartCool, which spritzes cool air to quickly ease any pain.

For anxiety, or pain not managed with these options, we offer PRO-NOX Nitrous Oxide System as an add-on service. During your treatment, you have the option to self-administer this 50/50 mix of oxygen and nitrous oxide for short-term relief of pain and anxiety throughout your medical treatment. Relief is immediate, but the gas stays in your system for only about ten minutes, so you are safe to drive. More info on PRO-NOX and cute video.
