FDA-approved KYBELLA is the only injectable treatment to remove adult double chin fat cells. Kybella works by dissolving the fat pocket under the chin.
Our founder, Linda Behla, and our staff were first to be trained in the country. And she was among the first ten practitioners in the Bay Area to use Kybella for treating a “double chin”.
What is KYBELLA?
Kybella is a prescription medicine containing deoxycholic acid, a molecule that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.
When injected into the area below the chin, the fat cells are destroyed, rendering them incapable of future storage or accumulation of fat. Kybella may also be used to successfully reduce the stubborn bulge commonly known as “bra fat”. This armpit fat is notoriously hard to tone through a healthy lifestyle alone so Kybella may be the ideal non-surgical solution since it can target other small fat areas besides the chin.
Once the desired results have been achieved, there’s no need for continued treatments. Each session takes around half an hour and may not be scheduled more frequently than one per month. Although KYBELLA is not intended as a skin tightening treatment, 80% of patients also noted a tightening of the skin.
Am I a good candidate?
If you have submental fat or a “double chin” or fullness beneath the chin that you would like to reduce, and you would like to avoid surgery such as liposuction, then you are likely a candidate for Kybella. Please make a complimentary consultation with one our expert practitioners to learn more and find out if Kybella is the best option for improving your chin profile. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not get this treatment.

How do I prepare for treatment?
Avoid taking ibuprofen, aspirin or any other blood thinners in the days prior to your procedure as they can increase bruising after the procedure. We suggest you schedule your treatments well before any major events since this is a months-long process. Let us know if you have any known allergies or problems swallowing.
What happens during the treatment?
We start by applying a numbing gel to the chin area, which takes about twenty minutes to come to full effect. Your practitioner will administer KYBELLA into the fat under your chin using multiple injections. Though there will be numerous injections, the process itself only takes about five minutes as we mark the area beforehand and each injection is very quick. We will also provide you with post-procedure care instructions.
What can I expect after the treatment?
You will have some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin. Swelling typically peaks at 24 hours post-treatment and can last from a few days to three weeks. The swelling is caused by the active medication breaking down the fat cells and is actually a sign that the treatment is working. There may also be bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area, all of which should be temporary. Avoid strenuous activity for the first few days after your injections. Ice packs can be used as desired to minimize any pain. Subsequent treatments typically result in less swelling but recovery time is similar. Most patients see a noticeable reduction in fat after the second treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
You and your practitioner will customize your injections regimen, including how many treatments you need, based on your desired chin profile and current amount of chin fat. Two to three vials of Kybella are generally required per visit. Many patients experience clearly visible results in two to four treatment sessions. Up to six treatment sessions may be administered, spaced no less than one month apart, as determined by your specific goals.
How long will the results last?
Numerous studies show that Kybella results are long-lasting since the fat cells are removed permanently and will not come back.
Can this treatment be used as part of a combo therapy?
As with most of our treatments, Kybella can be combined with filler injections or laser treatments depending upon your overall needs and goals, though not always at the same time.
The Science Behind Kybella
Kybella contains a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, a compound found in the human body. In its natural role in the digestive tract, deoxycholic acid helps break down fat we consume by destroying the membranes of fat cells. Kybella takes this fat-destroying compound and applies it to work on the subcutaneous fat cells under the chin. Fat cells are killed and are naturally eliminated by your body over the course of several weeks, while surrounding tissues remain unaffected. The injected Kybella is metabolized and ultimately eliminated as well.
The safety and effectiveness of Kybella for treatment of submental fat were established in two clinical trials that enrolled 1,022 adult participants with moderate or severe submental fat, according to the FDA. Participants were randomly assigned to receive Kybella or a placebo for up to six treatments, and the results showed that reductions in submental fat were observed much more frequently in participants who received Kybella.
