For decades, delivering a 50/50 mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen has been used around the world in medical and esthetic practice for pain management. During your treatment, you have the option to self-administer this inhaled analgesia. (We will also have available our other usual patient comfort options.)
What is PRO-NOX™ Nitrous Oxide System?
PRO-NOX delivers a 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide mixture for short-term relief of pain and anxiety during medical treatment. It is self-administered using a disposable mouthpiece. Unlike anesthesia, requiring a nurse anesthesiologist, you are in control, to deliver just the exact amount of fast-acting relief you need. And unlike laughing gas received at your dentist’s office, all traces fade from your system within ten minutes, so you won’t need a designated driver – you will be safe to drive with no risk of after effects.
Which conditions can be treated?
Some patients experience pain or anxiety during treatment. We continually check in with you during your time with us; we offer numbing cream, ice, and appropriate breaks in the treatment, and many of our devices include built-in relief such as cooling air flow. But sometimes more is needed, so we offer PRO-NOX as an add-on service.

What happens during treatment?
As you breath in through the mouthpiece, you may feel warm, “heavy”, euphoric, and/or tingly, and you’ll experience a reduction, of not complete alleviation, of tension, anxiety, pain, and nervousness. You continue to manage your own treatment, self-delivering a dose needed.
The Science Behind PRO-NOX
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, used in the PRO-NOX System is a colorless non-flammable gas, with a slight metallic scent and taste. Nitrous oxide has been used in medical practices, especially in surgery and dentistry, for its analgesic and pain reducing effects for over 150 years. Its name, “laughing gas”, coined by Humphry Davy, is due to the euphoric effects upon inhaling it. It is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines, as one of the most effective and safe medicines needed in a health system to provide pain relief during medical procedures.
