For treatments utilizing microneedling with radio frequency (RF), our devices of choice are Scarlet RF Microneedling and Agnes RF Microneedling, which we selected over Morpheus8 because of increased safety, comfort, and customization for the targeted skin concern, as well as downtime and healing considerations. In particular, Morpheus8 has faced criticism over the greater depth the needles penetrate into skin tissue; many expert practitioners believe that microneedling shouldn’t go so deep. Scarlet is less invasive and easier to tailor for specific skincare concerns, making it more suitable for a full range of skin tones and types.
The same applies to Agnes, with the added benefit of having very fine targeting and micro-insulated needles to provide additional protection to surrounding tissue, making it ideal for treating eye bags as well as wrinkles around the eyes.
Another consideration with all microneedling with RF treatments is the amount of downtime that can be expected. With Scarlet and Agnes, many patients are able to return immediately to regular activities as post-procedure downtime is significantly less, and usually consists of mild swelling, bruising, and minimal redness that subsides within one to three days. For more sensitive areas such as eye bags, you may experience up to a week of minimally visible side effects.
Recovery time for Morpheus8 sessions often includes:
• Redness, like a mild sunburn, for about one to two days
• Swelling
• Small scabs
• Bruising
• A chicken skin appearance
Complete healing of a Morpheus8 treatment generally takes two to three weeks.
We put in our research time and also sought feedback from our peers when considering the many options available for microneedling with RF. Though Morpheus8 was a strong contender, for all the reasons outlined here we chose Agnes and Scarlet.
