“I come from a tennis playing family, so short skirts are the norm year round for us all. For ages, my mother has been complaining about unwanted and un-work-off-able knee fat and sagging, crepey skin around her knees. And I guess it’s genetic, as I’m starting to notice it too. What can I do now to stop things getting worse, and is it too late for my mom?
I’ve heard this issue called soccer knee mom, but tennis players have it too!”
Thank you, “Soccer Knee Mom”
Dear SKM!
We hear you – in fact, we get several questions a month regarding knees, so you are not alone. And, no, it’s not too late for your mom – new technologies are getting amazing results. By starting your care now, you can slow the appearance of crepey skin and sun damage. Stubborn fat on the inside of the knees is likely genetic – but there’s good news for that too.
Esthetic problems of the knee may mostly be genetic, but also (and we’re talking to you tennis player!) can be caused by the sun which can cause loss of elasticity as well as the age spots we associate with sun damage.
So first, here’s what you can do now. Sunscreen! Every time you put on that tennis skirt, apply physical/mineral sunscreen (not chemical). We suggest Revision® Skincare Intellishade® Clear or Alastin Skincare’s Hydratint Pro Mineral Sunscreen.
And, also topically, consider SkinCeuticals Body Tightening Concentrate or Alastin Skincare’s TransFORM Body Treatment to target skin laxity, texture, and crepiness. If you work on building up your collagen now, your skin will be firmer in the future.
ISSUE – KNEE FAT
Stubborn knee fat is notoriously difficult to remove with diet and exercise because it’s an area known for having an inflated number of fat cells. As you work out or watch your calories, the size of each individual fat cell may go down, but the high concentration of fat cells in the area means your efforts don’t show.
CoolSculpting permanently removes fat cells – and can target the fat inside the knees of men and women.
ISSUE – SAGGY SKIN
Ugh, knees are the worst for crepey skin – it’s thin, wrinkly, and no longer bounces back. Several of our medical skin tightening therapies can be used to treat the skin of the knee area: Agnes RF Microneedling, Scarlet RF Microneedling, Ultherapy, and Venus Legacy.
Botox or Radiesse Volumizing Filler may be an option for crepey skin or fine lines.
ZWavePRO, available at our Marin Body Sculpting Suite may also be an ideal option for you.
We hope you’ll join us for a no-obligation, complimentary consultation to determine which treatment may be best for you.
ISSUE – CELLULITE
ZWavePro, mentioned above as an option for tightening skin, may also be an option for those who have cellulite around the knee.
