What is AgeJET Plasma Rejuvenation?
The AgeJET device converts nitrogen gas into plasma energy, which is then transferred through the handpiece using controlled pulses to channel non-ablative energy which stimulates new elastin and collagen growth while removing damaged collagen.
AgeJET offers significant improvements when compared to older resurfacing technology. In the past these treatment often caused unwanted side effects such as changes in skin texture, pigmentation, skin whitening, and even scarring. Skin regeneration using plasma resurfacing enables results that are more predictable and safer for the skin’s structure since it creates no open wounds.
Plasma rejuvenation treats the entire structure of your skin. Other technologies target certain parts of your skin as a means of protecting tissue from damage, or because they are designed to treat specific skin damage or aging concerns. Because plasma resurfacing treats all of your skin, your wrinkles, elasticity, scars, pigmentation, and more can be simultaneously treated by this one device.
AgeJET never breaks or damages the skin’s surface. Lasers and other treatments work by ablating or vaporizing the skin’s surface to trigger healing responses. CO2 lasers, for example, can have significant complications and downtime. Instead, this unique form of energy allows controlled rapid heating over treatment areas, stimulating collagen remodeling and restoring skin elasticity—all while leaving the overlying epidermis intact.
There’s a three-fold benefit to the AgeJET skin resurfacing process of treating without creating open wounds:
1. There’s less downtime.
2. Over time, your healthy upper skin layer provides protection as the deeper, treated tissue underneath is entirely remodeled during the physiological process of regeneration.

Another major advantage of AgeJET treatments is that discomfort and pain are notably reduced and there is a shorter recovery period, typically between four to ten days, depending on the intensity of the treatment. Our patients are usually able to return to normal daily routines shortly after lower energy treatments.

We can select the following energy levels based on patient goals:
• The lowest energy settings increase skin permeability, which aids topical treatment effectiveness and controls bacteria to improve active acne.
• Low to medium energy limits social downtime and is ideal for skin maintenance. Substantial improvement to signs of aging, wrinkles, lines, and age spots can be expected with just one treatment.
• High energy treatments deliver results comparable to fully ablative treatments, but with less much less social downtime and limited medical downtime. You’ll receive the benefits of lower energy treatments, plus tighter skin and contouring.

AgeJET TECHNOLOGY
AgeJET is proven to be an effective skin tightening method as it channels energy to the skin tissue. This energy is converted into heat to penetrate easily and painlessly into the deeper layers of skin and stimulate the natural processes of cell regeneration. The heat stimulates the fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, and at the same time causes existing collagen fibers to contract.
SAFETY
AgeJET releases energy in a series of precisely controlled pulses. The heat generated by the handpiece penetrates deeply, leaving the epidermis completely intact.
LASTING RESULTS
AgeJET triggers a neocollagenesis process which continues up to a year after treatment. Treatment results in natural, healthy, firmer, younger, lustrous skin.
How do I prepare for treatment?
A consultation – always complimentary – is required to discuss the level of energy and number of treatments which best match your goals.
During the two weeks before your appointment, avoid tanning and sun exposure. For seven days before your appointment, do not use exfoliants or topical tretinoins, like retinol, in the treatment area. Rigorously moisturize your skin.
For your appointment, please do not wear makeup. Men should shave. Remember a case for your contact lenses or wear your eyeglasses instead. Bring a hat (clean, and one you don’t mind getting petroleum jelly on) and sunglasses to protect your delicate skin on the way home.
What happens during treatment?
45 to 60 minutes is generally required to treat the entire face. Treatments may be as short as five to ten minutes for smaller areas. Treatment times may vary, however, depending on the individual application, the thickness of the skin, and patient sensitivity. You’ll receive a topical numbing cream to apply 20 to 30 minutes before your treatment. For higher-energy treatments, an injectable local anesthetic may be used. A gel will be applied to protect your hairline and eyebrows. If any facial hair is singed during treatment, it will grow back. You may hear odd noises! If this is uncomfortable, we can provide you with earplugs.
Post-treatment care or downtime?
You’ll leave our office with pink or red skin, protected by a layer of petroleum jelly. Depending on the strength of the treatment, and how well your skin is previously conditioned, the downtime will vary. You may see a “bronzing effect” which will disappear within a few days. It is typical for the patient to experience four to ten days of social downtime with higher energy treatments.
Your skin will be more permeable post-treatment, allowing for increased efficacy of topical skin care which can speed healing while physiological improvements from your treatment proceed.
Keep your skin moist with petroleum jelly. Although there are no open wounds, with higher energies skin may peel significantly for several days after the treatment.
How long until I see results?
Immediately, you’ll see tighter skin over the treated area. Over several weeks to month, new skin surfaces as the regeneration effects progress.
How long will results last?
Result will vary depending upon your treatment regimen and other factors. Clinical studies have shown that the neocollagenesis effect can endure for more than a year after the treatment, so results are long-lasting.
How many treatments will I need?
Your treatment plan will be determined during your consultation, based upon your goals, comfortable energy level, areas to be treated, and condition of your skin before treatment. Generally, one to six treatments are recommended.
Can this treatment be used as part of a combo therapy?
Yes! Prior to treatment, you can boost skin resurfacing results with IPL, and after treatment, your skin will be more permeable, meaning products and other treatments of interest may be more effective. Our experts will have recommendations for you, should you be interested, after analyzing your skin.
What’s the science?
The states of matter are commonly known as solid, liquid, and gas. Under certain conditions of increased energy application, there’s a fourth state—plasma. It’s around us in our daily lives—naturally in lightning and the sun’s energy, and in man-made applications such as neon lights and fluorescent light bulbs.
AgeJET technology delivers this plasma energy through an ultra-high frequency generator that converts inert nitrogen gas into activated ionized gas, the ideal basis for this skin therapy. This energy does not damage the skin barrier, but does cause the layers underneath to undergo regeneration, treating multiple skin issues simultaneously. Surface skin is not damaged as with ablative technologies.
