What are the main causes of shadows and dark circles under the eyes?
Dark circles and shadows under the eyes can be caused by many things, such as superficial veins or hyperpigmentation. Eyebags and puffiness can also contribute. However, in many cases, a lack of volume below the eyes is what creates the hollows that make us look tired. The hollows, or grooves, deflect the light and cast shadows onto the skin, leading to weary-looking eyes. This is also why salves such as cucumbers, creams, and teabags don’t solve the problem since they don’t do anything about the lack of volume.
What type of filler under the eye should you use?
A filler under the eye needs to be relatively firm. Restylane Eyelight uses a hyaluronic acid filler which has has been stabilized using a special cross-linking technology. By cross-linking the HA molecules, a three-dimensional matrix is formed to create a transparent gel which can last for months when injected properly. This makes Restylane Eyelight a relatively long-lasting solution for tired-looking eyes.
How long will the results last?
How long-lasting it will be varies from person to person, but a treatment typically lasts several months. Restylane Eyelight is not permanent, meaning you can adjust and fine-tune your tear trough treatments over time. Remember that the tear trough is a delicate area so the practitioner you choose should be an master injector, such as our esthetic nurses at Hayes Valley Med.
What are the side effects?
Side effects are normally mild and disappear within a week or two. Remember to discuss all potential side effects with your healthcare practitioner before the treatment.
Will it hurt? I don’t like needles…
A tear trough treatment only takes a few minutes. Restylane Eyelight contains a local anesthetic that alleviates most of the pain. We can also apply a gel that contains lidocaine on your skin before treatment. In general, the treatment will be quick with minimal discomfort, and requires no downtime, so you can go back to your daily activities after your visit.
