While most of us will be celebrating the Fourth of July outside, we think of only protecting our skin from the rays of the sun. But what about the selfies you will be taking and the texts you’ll be checking? Did you know there is a dangerous light emitting from our screens (smartphone, tablet, monitor) that can cause long-term damage to our skin?
Science is now seeing an increase in damage to all skin layers caused by HEV (High Energy Visible) light, otherwise known as blue light, that could be worse than the sun! This damage can cause early aging symptoms such as sagging, wrinkling, loss of elasticity, and hyperpigmentation (brown spots).
Now, before you chuck your phone and retreat to a cave, here are some easy, all in one products to add to your anti-aging arsenal.
Blue light causes free radical damage which leads to melanin activation (brown spots, uneven skin tone) and breaks down the fibers that make our skin smooth and supple. The easiest way to protect against blue light damage is to apply a sunscreen with antioxidant protection within the formulation. Antioxidants counter oxidative stress by giving our cells an additional boost of protection. In other words adding one of these sunscreens to your skincare routine will not only protect against the suns harmful rays, but also protect you from the blue light being emitted in our environment and technology devices.
Now go out there and enjoy Independence Day AND your selfies . . . Don’t forget to reapply every two hours!!!
